You can enhance a wood deck by creating permanent structure built-in seating areas using wood. The thing about working with and building decks is that you have more flexibility of creating more than what can typically be built using composite materials. Reason being is that wood has structural integrity; you can work with ground contact species (Treated) lumber and start building with it as both the structural material and finish material. You can pre-drill holes prior to avoid wood splitting or if you have specific type screws for the wood materials you can check and make sure they do not split the wood. always maintain spacing for the screws and avoid being to close to the edge of the wood as it could be more likely to split the wood especially if not pre-drilled prior.

of course, you will need to maintain the wood as it is exposed to the outdoor elements but that is part of the beauty of wood and being able to enjoy the true wood grain. by staining/painting outdoor wood you need to follow the manufacturers guidelines prior to application, doing a test area that is not visible or a seperate piece of wood can be a good idea for your project if you feel the need to see the exterior finish prior to application on the entire project.

By using WOOD, you can create templates, guides, or in this case work off an existing already there seating area and expand off of it and build the same style and finishes to add more seating areas that are built out of the same material as the deck and finished simultaNEOUSLY with the same exterior paint/stain finishes. being creative with wood is the ability the create something different or new that sets itself apart from the more common outdoor spaces you see.
